The new journeymen, left to right with the Commissioner are: Tristin Clifford, Carlos Viramontes, Commissioner Alvarez, Bryan Valle, Jesus Cardenas, & Robert Fette
Congratulations are in order for a group of professional carpenters who recently graduated from the Gulf Coast Carpenters and Millwrights Training Trust Fund apprenticeship program in Austin, Texas.
These men and women were the focal point of a graduation ceremony, where Texas Workforce Commissioner Julian Alvarez, who is consistently involved with the Austin apprenticeship program, delivered the keynote address.
Industry leaders also gathered to honor the graduates, such as Jorge Yat, now a general superintendent for union partner, Performance Contracting, Inc., who graduated from the program 22 years prior, and Mike Nielson from union partnering employer Midwest Drywall Company, Inc. Milwaukee Tools representatives also attended and presented each graduate with a new hammer drill/impact combo tool set.
The graduates are all members of Central South Carpentersí Local 1266, based on the same site as the training center, and will be dispatched to job sites from there.
